Address search and maps

Search for cities, addresses, hotels and airports, and use the maps that show venues and hotels.

For everyone 6 min read Updated

Wherever HAPR asks for a city, address, hotel, venue or airport, the box suggests matches as you type. Suggestions and maps come from Google, so a place you pick arrives with an exact position, and often a full address, phone number or photo.

Search for a place

  1. 1
Click the box and start typing. HAPR waits for at least two letters (three in hotel boxes) and for a short pause before it searches.
  2. 2
Wait for the list to appear. While HAPR searches you see grey placeholder rows. If you keep typing, the older results fade until the new ones arrive.
  3. 3
Choose a suggestion. You can also press the up and down arrow keys and then Enter. Enter on its own picks the top suggestion.
  4. 4
Press Escape to close the list without picking.

The list shows up to ten places before it scrolls. Each row has the place name and, underneath, the area or address.

The place box on the Explore screen.
  1. 1Search for venues.
  2. 2Search for room block hotels.
  3. 3Start typing a city or an address here.
  4. 4The dates.
  5. 5Run the search.
  6. 6Venue types, such as hotels with event space.

What the box keeps depends on the question it answers.

  • A city box keeps the city name, and a country box keeps the country.
  • A hotel box suggests hotels only and keeps the hotel name.
  • A venue box keeps the name, city and country together, for example "Spodek, Katowice, Poland".
  • An address box keeps the full address.
  • Where a form asks for "city, country", HAPR only fills the box when it knows both halves.

Related boxes fill themselves when you pick. Choosing an address can fill the city and country, and choosing a hotel can fill its address.

Keep a place Google does not know

You do not have to pick a suggestion. If nothing matches, the list says No places match. You can keep what you typed. Whatever you typed stays in the box and is saved with the form.

In the venue and hotel drawers, a property that Google cannot find can be typed in by hand. When you do pick a match, the address, city, country, website and phone number fill in for you. Check them and change anything that is wrong.

Search for an airport

  1. 1
Click an airport box, such as the airport question on a registration form.
  2. 2
Type an airport code such as LHR, a city, or part of the airport name. Two letters are enough.
  3. 3
Choose an airport from the list. Each row shows the code, the city and country, and the airport name.

HAPR shows up to eight matches. Once you pick, the three-letter code appears as a small badge at the end of the box.

If the organiser limited the airports on a form, the box shows that short list as soon as you click it, and you simply choose from it.

Use the map in Explore

  1. 1
In Explore venues and hotels, press the map icon (View on map) beside the results.
  2. 2
    Wait for Loading map….
  3. 3
Hover over a pin for the property name, star rating, group and how far it is from your site.
  4. 4
Press a pin, or choose a property in the side panel, to read its details. The panel shows the distance to your site, the nearest station, the average book rate and your current spend where HAPR has them.
  5. 5
Close the map to go back to the results.

The site you are searching around is also marked, and both it and the selected property bounce gently so you can always find them. Properties without a known position are not on the map. If none have one, the map says so.

Add hotels from a map

You can pick hotels straight from a map when you build the solicitation list in a hotel programme.

  1. 1
Open the list and press the plus button, then choose Add via map.
  2. 2
HAPR centres the map on your headquarters or office. If you have no location saved, it asks you to search a place first with Search a place above to see hotels nearby.
  3. 3
Use the search box at the top of the map to move to another place. Its prompt starts Search a place or address. Hotels within 5 km load around it.
  4. 4
Press a hotel pin to open its card, with photo, rating, and distance to the search point.
  5. 5
Press Add to selection on the card. The hotel appears in the Selected hotels panel. To take one out again, press the bin icon beside it.
  6. 6
Press Add to list when you have chosen them all. The button shows how many you picked.

The footer shows which place the map is centred on and how many hotels were found nearby. See Hotel transient rate programme for what happens to the hotels after they are on the list.

Flight terminals in the shuttle report

The Shuttle report shows the terminal for each arrival and departure, such as "ICN T2". HAPR takes terminals from published airline timetables. It shows a terminal only when the timetable gives exactly one. Otherwise you see the airport code alone or a dash, never a guess. Check the terminal with the airline when a leg matters.

Good to know

  • Photos come from Google with each place where one exists. Many places have none, and that is normal. A photo can also disappear when the place changes its listing.
  • The airport boxes on forms search HAPR's own airport list. A city with no airport of its own is matched to a nearby busy airport when Planning prices travel for it.

If something looks wrong

The list shows one of these lines when a search cannot finish. Your typed text is never lost.

  • Too many lookups just now. Please wait a moment. Wait a few seconds, then keep typing.
  • Search is not available just now. Please try again. Try again in a minute. You can type the place by hand in the meantime.
  • Please sign in again to search. Your session has ended. Sign in and try again.
  • This is taking too long. Keep typing or try again. A search gives up after eight seconds. Type a little more, or try again.
  • Couldn't search just now. Try again. If it keeps happening, tell support.

Maps have their own messages.

  • Could not load the map followed by a reason means the map could not start. Refresh the page and try again.
  • Nearby hotels could not be loaded. The map is still shown, but no hotels loaded around the place. Search the place again.
  • None of this city's hotels have coordinates yet - run “Get insights” on them first. Appears on the hotel map when no hotel has a position yet.
  • No hotels match followed by your search words means the list filter found nothing. Clear the filter box.
